5 Fantastic Ways to Improve your Study Space

Posted by Charlotte Lotus Sommer in Study Effectively, Study Tips for SMART Students

Your study space is very important, whether it´s in your own office at home, in your living room or at your school. The space you study makes an enormous difference to how you study. It can influence the quality of your reading and writing, your creativity and how long it takes you to finish. In the following you get 5 great ways to improve your study space.

1. Rearrange or change the furniture

Sometimes the arrangement of you study space furniture can make a great different to your productivity level. Maybe you have an uncomfortable chair, the sun shines into your computer or there is no fresh air in the room.

Sometimes we forget to think about these things, but they still affect our studying a lot.

Here is what to do: Sit in your study space and look around you. Look for everything that might be distracting. It can be a dead plant, an old uninspiring broke table or the way your furniture is arranged. Then change the thing you can do right away. Throw out the plant; you might even buy a new beautiful one. Make sure that that the furniture is arranged in the most effective way.

2. Surround yourself with inspiration and get rid of distraction

Remove old post-its from our wall, and make sure only to keep the ones you need. Don’t hang them on your wall again, but make a file on your computer where you keep a list of what you need to do and remember. Then you don’t get distracted by papers hanging all around your room.

3. Get rid of all your clocks

Everyone knows how it feels to look at the clock all the time. The creativity disappears and you can’t think about anything else that how many hours you have been in your room studying instead of being outside. Get rid of the clocks and make other deadlines for yourself instead. For example that you have to write on full page, and then you can have a break. Chances are that you’re doing it quickly and efficiently, because you know that when you’re done, you can reward yourself with a little downtime!

4.  Tidy up the space

It removes some of the stress that maybe occur when you´re studying. The mess on your desk or in the room is distracting you like crazy every time you look away from your computer screen. Spend one day to sort, bin and plan things. Keep your files at your computer tidy. When you have done this you only need around ten minutes every day to keep it clean and tidy. I promise you, it’s worth it.

5.  Evaluate your personality and how you like to study

Is it best for you to study for a long period of time, or do you need breaks often to be able to return to your work with more energy? Does it help you with some calm music in the background or is that distracting? Do you like to sit alone or close to your family members?

Be aware of these things and you will get more creative and productive in no time.
